The organization will also help purchase food for hungry refugee families in Malawi.

The humanitarian organization Fraternity Without Borders (FWB) resume on Friday, January 21st, the campaign Heart Homes (Casas de Coração) – Malawi, which aims to raise funds to rebuild and construction of houses in the refugee camp Dzaleka, that houses more than 51,000 people who fled their home countries due to war, persecution, and humanitarian crisis.  

The FWB has a project there: Ubuntu Nation, and the cost of building a house in the region is around $2,000 dollars (about 10,000 Brazilian reais). Houses of Heart (Casas de Coração) has already made it possible to build 78 houses for families living in the transit area (space where war refugees stay until they can build their own homes) in the Refugee Camp. Many of these people have spent years in the transit area living in situations of extreme vulnerability.

Currently, with the frequency of the rains, they are cob houses – mud and straw (the structure they can afford) end up being destroyed. The houses are precarious and most of the time with only one room, where families with up to 13 people live.  The lack of food and basic sanitation makes the refugees’ situation even more critical.

The FWB campaign aims to collect donations for the renovation and construction of houses, purchase of roofs and assistance with food baskets to children and families in need. “We are a family of four. The worst moment I experienced in my life here was the rape of my daughter. That is something that happened in the transit area and I will never forget. We are getting a beautiful house. My children are very happy in our new house,” reports a refugee benefiting from the campaign.
